The following are various positions that you may choose to volunteer for within the agency. You may do more than one at a time if you like. You will work with the Volunteer Manager to determine the best fit for you and may change that at any time after providing notice. This list is fairly comprehensive but RTOV is open to any other ideas/skills/abilities that you might suggest.

Office Clerk -filing-copying-directing clients-answering phones/transferring calls-sending faxes -ability to work with the public-good communication skills-good reading/writing skills-basic computer skills All This position would be best at the main agency location working to help all programs.
Maintenance/Janitor -cleaning facilities-light maintenance (i.e changing light bulbs, painting, etc.) -ability to use cleaners and cleaning equipment-general maintenance skills All Mostly needed at main location and Early Head Start/Head Start centers.
Readers -reading to children -good reading skills-ability to interact with children ages 0-5 -Early Head Start-Head Start-Project READ Centers are located in Hillsville, Galax and Independence.
Center Aides -assist teachers with duties such as meals, clean-up, interacting with children, etc. -ability to interact with children ages 0-5 -Early Head Start-Head Start Centers are located in Hillsville, Galax and Independence.
Literacy Promoter -promote the message of the importance of reading and early literacy-attend reading events-plan/organize/execute promotions of message -good communication skills-planning abilities-creativity  Project READ Will have office space at main location.
Greeter/Scheduler -schedule appointments for VITA-greet customers and provide general info -ability to learn to operate phone system-work with general public-learn/pass tests related to standards of conduct and intake/interview skills VITA  Will work at main location.Could perform duties in conjunction with Office Clerk position.
Tax Preparer -complete tax returns for customers -basic computer skills-ability to read, learn and apply basic tax law-ability to follow question-based software to complete returns-ability to work with general public VITA All training is provided. Preparation site is at the main agency location.
Quality Reviewer -Complete Quality Reviews for Tax Preparers -basic computer skills-ability to read, learn and apply basic tax law-Certify to Advanced Preparer level in order to review all returns preparers complete-ability to work with general public VITA All training is provided. Preparation site is at the main agency location.May also complete ‘drop-off’ returns.
Facility Assistant -help to keep grounds attractive-maintain plants-assist with décor -basic gardening duties-basic decorating abilities All Main agency location as well as centers/satellite locations.   
Special Events Team Member -help with agency events-assist in any tasks pertaining to event including planning, promoting, conducting and clean up -ability to work with a team-ability to follow directions and/or give directions All Will work with staff at the main agency location. Events may be held within the community.
Fundraising Team Member -help to plan, promote, conduct fundraisers-work with donors-promote agency and tax credits -ability to work with public-good communication skills-ability to work independently or with a team All Will work with staff at the main agency location. May work independently.
