Learn About Our Vision

Rooftop is one of over 1,000 community action agencies working to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty nationwide.

History

Rooftop of Virginia CAP was incorporated on May 14, 1965. Since then, the community action agency has served numerous individuals and families with lower incomes in the counties of Grayson and Carroll and the City of Galax. Our agency continues to work towards the original goal of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, directing its efforts to the elimination of “poverty in the midst of plenty in this nation by offering to everyone the opportunity for education and training, the opportunity to work and the opportunity to live in decency and dignity.” The methods of combating poverty focus on assisting and empowering  citizens by using various strategies to increase their level of social and economic independence. The outcomes improve the quality of life for individuals and families and strengthen the community in which they live.  The agency is a private, non-profit agency supported by donations & contributions, supplemented with federal, state, and local funds.

Risk Management

Rooftop of Virginia CAP (RTOV) is committed to identifying, evaluating and addressing issues or concerns that might negatively impact the safety and/or operation of the agency. RTOV incorporates Risk Management into all planning and decision-making processes.
